SURF ALERT: Big NW swell expected this weekend

Printer-friendly versionSend to friendPDF versionWe are currently tracking a possible NW swell to hit San Diego this weekend. The swell models have the size from head high to 3-feet overhead. This front of the swell should hit west-facing beaches Friday evening and peak on Saturday. The current swell period projections show a very long period so the swells should come in very defined sets.

Of note is the possibility of rain during this swell. Of course rain will complicate matters and affect the swell. SurfSD will closely watch this incoming swell. Additional information on the surf report will be posted as it develops. Be sure to watch the comments where I will add pics of the swell.

UPDATE on 12-08-2006 7:28 am:

It arrives! We are going to begin seeing the front end of the swell arrive today around Friday evening. All day Saturday the swell continues to build up to 14-foot sets. We expect this swell to deliver 8 to 12-foot swells all weekend and begin dropping early Tuesday morning.

The only bit of bad news is the high chance of rain for the entire weekend. Accuweather.com has even issued this coastal flooding weather advisory.
