News today that the popular Tamarack Surf Beach in Carlsbad may cost $8 per day to park... even if you're just there for a quick session. The state's Parks and Recreation Department is looking to help fill a $13.3 million budget gap by charging people to park in the 122-space parking lot but the city of Carlsbad has asked for a one-month postponement while it considers the proposal: State's rising tide of debt may be felt by beachgoers
The state has always had the right to charge for parking but previously Carlsbadhad paid the $36,000 a year to keep the parking lot free. |

Government in this state
Government in this state has lost their f'n' minds.. charge me and my fam to park there.. fine.. I'll walk my kids from blocks away.. and block traffic while I park.. and block traffic while I pull the wagon across the street..
What happened to the idea of California having free access the beach..
I say it's time for Surfrider to stage somethin.. cancel a clean-up where we pick up itty bits of trash and fill waaaay too many plastic bags for what we pick up.. and stage a park-in instead..
Maybe we should all get on the coast highway at 10am some Saturday.. and just stop... put on our blinkers and look for parking.
Anyone??
at the very least they
I recently moved to Carlsbad
I could not say it better
My husband used to work for
My husband used to work for State Parks. The reason they are always coming up with shortfalls to their budget is because they have too many administrators, many of whom are incompetent, and they'd rather cut lifeguards, charge exorbitant fees for parking at beaches and parks we ALREADY pay for with our tax dollars, etc. rather than clean up their act or make cuts to their own administrative positions.
