The giant squid, known as Humbold Squid, can grow up to 6 feet long and weigh 100 pounds but this invasion has been seeing squid averaging 20 to 40 pounds on average. Local fishing charters are saying their phones are rining off the hook with fisherman biting at the chomp to catch one.
Even small children are in awe of what's coming out of the bay and into the glass case at Point Loma Seafoods.
As kids point inside to what is already caught, just feet away, Captain Chuck Taft is preparing outside to taking people out on his boat at H&M Landing so they can see for themselves the migration of the giant squid.
"People just can't believe how big they are, how wet you can get and how much ink they squirt," said Taft.
If you're interested in picking one up the story continues below or you can go to Point Loma Seafood and grab one from their display case today.
"It's a very cost affective way to have calamari," said Taft.
